music and video, both annoying

We've got some live performances on video, plus some mp3s you can download at your earliest convenience and use to bug that guy who sits in the cubicle next to yours. Left-clicky listen, right-clicky downloady. You can also listen to The Anarchist Fakebook in its entirety here.

F***ing Winter F***ing Wonderland, 1/10/10

The 2009 Christmas Eve Oklahoma Blizzard managed to completely incapacitate more than half the state, making it (to say the least) a challenge for those of us who actually DID have to get out and DRIVE in it. Those of you who live in snowier climates, think of it thus: take your normal icy winter temps, add 6-8 inches of snow and ice, subtract all plows and salt trucks, then leave it that way for two full weeks. That's Tulsa this winter. So to commemorate these paralyzing effects (which returned at the end of January), here is the first-ever Acoustic Ross seasonal-type song, a variation on the old chestnut "Winter Wonderland," with new lyrics that - inspired by actual events and containing language appropriate to our situation at hand - are most definitely not safe for work, the easily offended, and/or children you don't want learning That One Word just yet.

Now that that's out of the way, please to enjoy. Video to the right, mp3 below.

Video quality is pretty lousy. If I could tell you why, you'd laugh.

Live at the 918 UFN EP Release Party, 4/17/04

This gig saw, among other things, the public debut of "Ugly American," more than 4 years before it appeared on The Anarchist Fakebook. This version contains the long-since-removed verse about a certain celebrity religion. I'd love to say that verse was removed over pressure from said celebrity religion's legal department, but I really just didn't think it was funny enough. The levels are a little low on a couple of these, so you may need to crank these up a bit. Also my voice is pretty raspy on the stuff from the second set, so you might want to imagine someone else singing those.

Live on The News on 6 at Noon, 7/28/00

I'm proud to say that the KOTV switchboard fielded lots of complaints that afternoon, most of which seem to have centered on the words 'idiot' and 'crap.'

Other Oddities

Here's a little interview I did for TulsaOriginalMusic.com and 104.5 The Edge, mainly about the then-pending release of The Anarchist Fakebook, 7/4/08.

Here's the non-album, original 'contest version' of the duct tape anthem "Just the Thing" from 2002 (full story here). To submit this for the contest, I had to stay under a four-minute limit, which meant editing out the intro and almost all of the instrumental breaks. I didn't win, but a new recording of this track, with an all-new bridge and other revised lyrics, wound up on the 918 UFN EP. Sorry about the way I sang the word 'haze.'

Here's the original version of the Acoustic Ross concert staple simply known as "The Medley." It's an organic, ever-evolving part of the set and I never play it the same way twice. Here's the earliest version, circa 2002 - quite different from the way it sounds these days.

Finally, you can go HERE to download the entire Math Lab EP from 2006. It sounds nothing like the rest of this stuff... and I highly recommend it.
